The Women's and Gender Studies program at UNC Charlotte explores the ways that gender influences social structures and individual experience around the world. We view gender as a category of analysis that includes women, men, transgendered individuals, and other genders.

Geography (MA)

The Master of Arts in Geography emphasizes the application of geographic skills, methods, and theory to problem solving in contemporary society. To this end, students are offered a solid foundation in research methods, problem formulation and solution, quantitative methods, computer applications and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Faculty and students are active in the community and students are encouraged to complete their programs with either funded or unfunded internships in the private or public sector.

Geography (Ph.D.)

Doctoral

The PhD in Geography is the Department of Geography & Earth Sciences' core doctoral program reflecting the multi-disciplinary research and teaching expertise of our exceptional and award winning faculty. Doctoral students engage in coursework from within and across three areas of focus: Urban and Regional Analysis, Earth and Environmental Systems and Geographic Information Science. A broad range of electives build upon shared training in the theoretical and methodological foundations of Geography, advanced research approaches, spatial technologies and critical analysis. Independent research follows yielding a dissertation that advances knowledge in Geography and its related disciplines. The program is structured to be completed within 4 years and our graduates find professional success across the occupational spectrum - as tenure-track professors, international researchers, community planners, analysts with local to national scale governments, post-doctoral fellows, applied scientists, spatial entrepreneurs, private sector consultants and more.

Gerontology (CERT)

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Certificate

The Graduate Certificate in Gerontology is designed to provide supplementary graduate education in the field of gerontology. This is a perfect supplemental program to any master's degree at UNC Charlotte. Students can work on the certificate and their graduate degree simultaneously and likely double count some courses. Qualifying undergraduates studying at UNC Charlotte may begin as an Early Entry Student. Those with a bachelor's degree may complete it as a stand-alone option. This is also a perfect gap year program for those between undergraduate and graduate work. Those who already have a graduate degree in another field and want to learn more about older adults or those completing a graduate degree in another field who are interested in working with older adults will be able to understand more about the population they serve by completing this certificate.

Health Administration (MHA)

The CAHME-accredited UNC Charlotte Master of Health Administration (MHA) Program develops emerging healthcare leaders prepared to advance health equity. We pursue our mission through education, research, and service that: 1) Gives students the knowledge, skills, and values needed to lead dynamic health systems. 2) Creates knowledge needed to lead people and organizations providing health services. 3) Increases the diversity of health services leaders, with a special emphasis on individuals and groups historically underrepresented in graduate education. 4) Promotes the public's health. Our cohort based program offers 2-year (full-time intensive), 3-year (full-time) & 4-year (half-time) plans of study starting in the fall (or summer second half). Note - Spring admission is limited to early entry students. All other spring applications will be denied.

Health Informatics and Analytics (CERT)

Certificate

The UNC Charlotte Health Informatics and Analytics Program develops practitioners who bridge data sciences and analytics in support of optimal population health. It leverages its position within the university’s School of Data Science and capitalizes on the strength of its parent colleges, Health and Human Services and Computing and Informatics to prepare national and international students to advance the professional practice of health informatics through a thorough grounding in data science, system architecture and health analytics. Up to 15 credits can be transferred from the Certificate to the Health Informatics and Analytics MS.

We provide qualified and motivated students from a variety of disciplines, levels of experience, and backgrounds – with a special emphasis on individuals and groups historically underrepresented in graduate education – the knowledge, skills, and abilities to become exemplary practitioners of and advocates for health informatics.

Health Psychology (Ph.D.)

Doctoral

Health Psychologists use a multidisciplinary perspective to promote positive health behaviors, encourage behavioral change and behavioral maintenance. Health Psychologists are frequently part of multidisciplinary teams conducting research and delivering interventions in academic, clinical, research, governmental and community settings. The Ph.D. in Health Psychology offers training in one of the following areas of emphasis: Clinical Psychology, Community Health Psychology or General Health Psychology.
