The Community/Public Health Nursing specialty prepares nurses to assume leadership in assessing communities and populations, identifying high risk groups, and in partnership with communities, consumers, and stakeholders, developing culturally-sensitive, acceptable and realistic community-based nursing interventions. Graduates are expected to demonstrate PHN Competencies identified by the Quad Council. This program is taught online.

Nursing: Family Nurse Practitioner across the Life Span (MSN)

The Family Nurse Practitioner Across the Lifespan concentration offer nurses the opportunity to provide primary care in family practice settings. FNPs provide care to individuals and families across the lifespan, promote wellness and disease prevention, meet tomorrow’s health care challenges and provide leadership in the delivery of quality health care. Upon graduation, individuals will be qualified to sit for exams leading to Board Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and/or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Family Nurse Practitioner Across the Lifespan graduates are prepared to work as primary care providers in (a) Primary Care Practices; (b) Community-based Clinics; (c) Public Health Departments; and (d) Rural/Urban Settings.

The Master of Science in Optical Science and Engineering is an interdisciplinary program involving primarily five science and engineering departments and two centers (Departments of Physics and Optical Science, Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics, Electrical and Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science; the Center for Optoelectronics and Optical Communications; and the Center for Precision Metrology). The Program educates scientists and engineers who will develop the next generation of optical technology.

Organizational Science is both a science and a practice, founded on the notion that enhanced understanding leads to applications and interventions that benefit the individual, work groups, the organization, the customer, the community and the larger society in which the organization operates.

The Applied Physics concentration is excellent preparation for those planning to continue their education through the Ph.D., either in physics or an engineering field, or for a career as an instructor in a two-year college. Students electing the thesis option will be well qualified for employment in industry or in a research laboratory. The Applied Optics concentration is designed for students intending to pursue a career in optics fields such as optoelectronics, optical communications, optical metrology, etc. This concentration would also be excellent preparation for those planning to continue their education through the Ph.D. in optics.

Play Therapy (CERT)

The William States Lee College of Engineering

UNC Charlotte offers a sequence of graduate counseling courses with an emphasis in play therapy. The goal of the program is to prepare students to work with children who are 10 years and younger in a developmentally appropriate way in both school counseling and community settings. The program is available for students who have completed a master’s degree in counseling, social work or psychology and want additional training in play therapy. In addition, students currently enrolled in the master's or doctoral program in the School of Social Work or in non-UNCC counseling programs may take the coursework required for the graduate certificate. The graduate certificate in Play Therapy will meet the post-master’s educational requirements, as specified by the Association for Play Therapy (APT) for the Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential.
