Mathematics (MS)

The Master of Science in Mathematics is organized into four concentrations: General Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Applied Statistics and Mathematics Education. The Concentration in General Mathematics is a robust but flexible program that allows a student to develop a broad background in Mathematics ranging over a variety of courses chosen from both pure and applied areas, or to tailor a program toward a particular focus that may not be as closely covered by the department's other degree concentrations (e.g., one that is interdisciplinary in nature). The Concentration in Applied Mathematics develops analytical and computational skills focused toward applications of mathematics in the physical sciences as encountered in industry, government and academia. The Concentration in Applied Statistics provides theoretical understanding of, and training in, statistical analysis and methods applicable to particular areas of business, industry, government and academia. The Concentration in Mathematics Education is designed primarily for secondary school mathematics teachers interested in professional growth in mathematics teaching. Emphasis in this program is given to developing depth and breadth in mathematics teaching and learning, appropriate to the role of the secondary school teacher.

Mechanical Engineering (MSME)

The Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering is broad based, allowing students to develop expertise in a number of areas including metrology, precision engineering, bioengineering, motorsports and automotive engineering, energy engineering, manufacturing, thermal and fluid sciences, solid mechanics, instrument design, materials engineering and science and mechanical control and instrumentation.

Middle Grades Education (MAT)

UNC Charlotte's Master of Arts in Teaching in Middle Grades is for candidates who have previously completed the Graduate Certificate in Teaching Middle Grades. Candidates in this program will further deepen their understanding of effective teaching and instruction specific to the needs of middle school learners and develop as self-reflective master teachers. The 16 credit hours earned in Phase I will transfer requiring only an additional 14 credit hours. The program is 100% online and leads to the advanced Standard Professional II teaching license.

Nursing: Family Nurse Practitioner across the Life Span (MSN)

The Family Nurse Practitioner Across the Lifespan concentration offer nurses the opportunity to provide primary care in family practice settings. FNPs provide care to individuals and families across the lifespan, promote wellness and disease prevention, meet tomorrow’s health care challenges and provide leadership in the delivery of quality health care. Upon graduation, individuals will be qualified to sit for exams leading to Board Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and/or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Family Nurse Practitioner Across the Lifespan graduates are prepared to work as primary care providers in (a) Primary Care Practices; (b) Community-based Clinics; (c) Public Health Departments; and (d) Rural/Urban Settings.

Nursing: Nurse Educator (MSN)

The Nurse Educator specialty prepares nurses for advanced practice as Nurse Educators in selected areas of expertise. Students declare a specialty in the application and develop a portfolio from their graduate work demonstrating their expertise. Graduates of this program are prepared for academic positions teaching nursing at the entry into practice or RN-BSN levels and meet the North Carolina Board of Nursing requirements for Nurse Educators.  The program is taught online.

Optical Science and Engineering (MS)

The Master of Science in Optical Science and Engineering is an interdisciplinary program involving primarily five science and engineering departments and two centers (Departments of Physics and Optical Science, Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics, Electrical and Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science; the Center for Optoelectronics and Optical Communications; and the Center for Precision Metrology). The Program educates scientists and engineers who will develop the next generation of optical technology.

Physics (applied) (MS)

The Applied Physics concentration is excellent preparation for those planning to continue their education through the Ph.D., either in physics or an engineering field, or for a career as an instructor in a two-year college. Students electing the thesis option will be well qualified for employment in industry or in a research laboratory. The Applied Optics concentration is designed for students intending to pursue a career in optics fields such as optoelectronics, optical communications, optical metrology, etc. This concentration would also be excellent preparation for those planning to continue their education through the Ph.D. in optics.

Psychology: Industrial/Organizational (MA)

The Master of Arts in Psychology: Industrial/Organizational is a nationally recognized master’s degree program in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology. It provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve the world of work from both an employee and organizational point of view. The program and its curriculum are built on five key foundational elements: Leadership, Organizational Change and Development, Talent, Culture/Climate and Analytics.

Public Administration (MPAD)

The Master of Public Administration provides education and training for the public and nonprofit sectors, conducts scholarly and applied research to advance the field of public administration, and serves the community. MPA students have the option to concentrate their studies in several specialized areas: Non-Profit Management, Urban Management and Policy, Arts Administration, Emergency Management and Public Finance.
