Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CERT)

The Graduate Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation will give you a strong foundation in entrepreneurship and innovation, skill sets that are increasingly in demand. The certificate will give entrepreneurs (both those who seek to create independent ventures and those seeking to lead innovative transformation within existing corporations) a strong foundation to support current or future endeavors. Coursework in the certificate also provides a foundation that can be used to satisfy graduate business degree requirements in the future.

Ethics (applied) (CERT)

The graduate certificate in Applied Ethics is of interest to three groups of students: (1) professionals working in areas of applied ethics; (2) students who are beginning to explore graduate work in philosophy; and (3) students in other master’s and doctoral programs, such as biology, health administration, and public policy, who expect their careers to include work in applied ethics.

Game Design and Development (CERT)

The Game Design and Development graduate certificate provides graduate students with the opportunity to reach a demonstrated level of competence in game design and development. Coursework in the certificate in GDD can be used toward the Master’s degree in Computer Science. However, its primary purpose is to provide a well-defined target for students who want to advance their knowledge of modern game design and development techniques and work with a variety of professionals, from artists to writers, to bring the vision for an interactive game or media product to life. Note that some of the courses for this certificate program can be completed fully online.

Geographic Information Science and Technology (CERT)

GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, GRADUATE CERTIFICATE The Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Science and Technology (GIS&T) program provides students in-depth training and education in GIS. Students with different backgrounds (e.g., biology/ecology, geography, earth sciences, meteorology, engineering, social science, public health and computer science) are exposed to knowledge in cutting-edge geospatial theory, methods, and technologies, including GIS, spatial analysis, remote sensing, cartography, and geovisualization. Students develop geospatial skills that are of great help in their domain-specific problem-solving using state-of-the-art GIS. The GIS training that students receive from the graduate certificate program makes them highly competitive in their future career in academic or industrial fields.

Gerontology (CERT)

The Graduate Certificate in Gerontology is designed to provide supplementary graduate education in the field of gerontology. This is a perfect supplemental program to any master's degree at UNC Charlotte. Students can work on the certificate and their graduate degree simultaneously and likely double count some courses. Qualifying undergraduates studying at UNC Charlotte may begin as an Early Entry Student. Those with a bachelor's degree may complete it as a stand-alone option. This is also a perfect gap year program for those between undergraduate and graduate work. Those who already have a graduate degree in another field and want to learn more about older adults or those completing a graduate degree in another field who are interested in working with older adults will be able to understand more about the population they serve by completing this certificate.

Health Informatics and Analytics (CERT)

The UNC Charlotte Health Informatics and Analytics Program develops practitioners who bridge data sciences and analytics in support of optimal population health. It leverages its position within the university’s School of Data Science and capitalizes on the strength of its parent colleges, Health and Human Services and Computing and Informatics to prepare national and international students to advance the professional practice of health informatics through a thorough grounding in data science, system architecture and health analytics. Up to 15 credits can be transferred from the Certificate to the Health Informatics and Analytics MS.

Human Computer Interaction (CERT)

The Graduate Certificate in Human Computer Interaction provides both knowledge and skills in the human-centered design of interfaces for software applications. Students are provided with a basic understanding of human-centered design methods, as well as practical experience with techniques for designing, prototyping, implementing, and evaluating user interfaces. The graduate certificate may act as a standalone graduate option for post-baccalaureate and post-master's students, or may be pursued concurrently with a related graduate degree program at UNC Charlotte. The 12 credit hours in the certificate program may be applied to the graduate programs in the Department of Software and Information Systems with approval of the department Graduate Program Director.

Information Security and Privacy (CERT)

The graduate certificate in Information Security and Privacy provides professionals with an opportunity to advance their level of competence in the understanding, management and applications of cyber security and privacy technology. Coursework towards this graduate certificate can be used for credit towards the M.S. in Information Technology. However, its primary objective is to provide a well-defined target for students who want to advance their knowledge and skills in understanding and applying cyber security technology, but do not necessarily wish to complete all the requirements for the M.S. in Information Technology.
