What has been your driving force for enrolling in your degree program?

Going back to school was an intentional shift for me, moving away from a successful career in software sales. I realized that what I loved most about my partnerships was the relationships that I built. I am naturally equipped with an empathic heart and desired more work/life balance, so I decided to use the skills I had honed to shift directions and become a therapist. Helping others is at the core of why I believe I am on the earth!

Why did you choose UNC Charlotte over other universities?

UNC Charlotte's counseling program has a multicultural focus, and I was really drawn to that. I also wanted to have in-person classes instead of virtual.

If you work outside of graduate school, tell us about your career. What lessons have you learned in your courses that you could apply on the job?

I am working at Miracles Counseling Centers as an intake coordinator/administrative assistant. The classes I have taken to hone my interpersonal skills have been beneficial in being able to confidently work and collaborate with people from all walks of life.

What has been the best part of your academic experience so far?

My internship has been the best part of my academic experience so far. I absolutely love being able to meet with clients. I have appreciated the supervision I have received both on-site and from my UNC Charlotte professors. I have felt supported every step of the way.

How would you describe UNC Charlotte to someone considering a graduate program?

A thriving academic environment that is open and inclusive. A great place to accomplish your dreams!

What do you hope to accomplish this year in your role as an ambassador?

I want to let others know that they can achieve their academic goals, even if it seems there may be barriers to accomplishing them. Where there is a will, there is a way.
