I chose UNC Charlotte because it has been part of my educational journey for many years. I completed my teacher certification there in 2009, and later returned for my master’s program. I loved the professors and the support I received at UNC Charlotte, so when I decided to pursue my doctoral degree, I was excited to continue my journey at Charlotte.
My graduate degree from UNC Charlotte has helped prepare me for my future by helping me grow as an educator, researcher and leader. Every step of the program has pushed me to think deeper, ask better questions and become more confident in the work I want to do in education. It has also helped me see myself as someone who can continue learning, teaching, researching and making a difference in the community.
My favorite graduate school memory so far has been experiencing the energy and support from the professors, as well as the sense of unity within the graduate community.
Treat graduate school as a journey, not just something to finish quickly. Be involved as much as possible, get to know your professors, connect with your peers and build meaningful friendships and professional relationships. Step outside of your comfort zone by presenting your work, attending conferences, participating in research opportunities and saying yes to experiences that help you grow as a scholar, educator and person.
