I am fascinated by the number of various subjects in the English department and the support from the faculty. I have been part of many workshops during my Creative Writing program. I have also received incredible advice from established writers in the faculty who explained how things really are outside the university in the literary community.
All the classes at the Department of English were marked by the warmth and genuine interest shown to me by the faculty members from day one. Also, the events within the department of English, some of which I have organized, will include discussing my path as a Fulbrighter from Ukraine and sharing my Ukrainian cultural heritage with others.
Try to be open-hearted toward new classes and stay curious. Even when you are tired, try to think of the current moment as a once-in-a-lifetime experience that can benefit you in the future.
I am thankful for the opportunity to be a Niner in the English Department, as I have met wonderful people at the university who are genuinely dedicated to their work and offer so much support and guidance. I have also realized that it’s important to attend my professors’ office hours, as this is a great time to ask them more nuanced questions about the field of study and their expertise.
