What is your background/industry experience and research focus?
My background is Health Information Management, Health Care Administration, and Health Sciences. My research focus is Patient Rights, Patient Confidentiality, Patient Privacy, Patient Advocacy, and Social Determinants of Health. I’ve worked in the health care field for over 20 years serving in multiple capacities. My practical experience includes working with the pediatric and adult population in acute care, private practice, federally qualified healthcare centers in administrative roles.
How would you describe the research UNC Charlotte does and your role in it?
The research UNC Charlotte does is dynamic. My role is to ensure that I align with the research goals of UNC Charlotte and utilize my practical experience to prepare my students for the healthcare industry. As the University continues to transform with the information age, my role is to ensure that our graduate students are knowledgeable of current events and industry standards that will impact their future roles in health information systems as future healthcare professionals and leaders.
How would you describe the graduate community at UNC Charlotte?
In speaking towards the MHA graduate community, our students have impressive backgrounds. Several of the graduate students work in the healthcare industry and their experience is valuable to the MHA program. There are students who have never worked in the healthcare community and their willingness to learn is impressive. This is what makes UNC Charlotte great. The different types of students feed off of one another and make their experience greater.

UNC Charlotte is a great college that serves a vast multi-cultural population. Selecting UNC Charlotte to complete a graduate course provides exposure that includes so many variables. Our college is centered in the middle of Charlotte, a dynamic city that is continuing to grow and create jobs and opportunities for the population they serve. This is beneficial for potential graduate students, both locally and out-of-state. Whether a student chooses to go into their careers post-graduation or continue their academic journey, UNC Charlotte has connections in various industries geared to serve our graduate students well.
