What has been your driving force for enrolling in your degree program?
I am driven to complete a PhD (the highest degree) in Computing Information Systems to engage in information technology research and teach the next generation of technologists. However, I plan to integrate my research in technology to support the transition of military veterans into civilian society. I will align emerging technologies with the cognitive challenges of post-military veterans.
Why did you choose UNC Charlotte over other universities?
UNC Charlotte did not require relocation, which would have separated my family and posed additional financial obligations as I pursued the PhD. Charlotte also recently obtained R1 status. I want to be part of the change and validation of the Computing and Information Systems program initiatives.
What has been the best part of your academic experience so far?
Knowledge acquisition and appreciation of extraordinary works of the IT research community.
How would you describe UNC Charlotte to prospective graduate students?
UNC Charlotte is an ecosystem that embraces the uniqueness, curiosity, and cohesiveness of students, faculty, and administration. There is a tremendous opportunity for graduate students to have an active voice, be acknowledged, and challenge themselves to achieve personal and professional greatness.
What are some of your favorite activities or places to visit in Charlotte beyond campus?
Jetton Park (Cornelius), Greenway (Huntersville), and Latta Plantation Park (Huntersville)
What advice would you give to someone considering applying to your program?
I suggest they visit the campus on a self-guided tour, complete an official group tour, visit classes in session, attend a sporting event, and build a matrix to compare personal goals/objectives with the UNC Charlotte graduate program and research the profiles of respective graduate program professors and administrators.
