Q&A with Jaeyoung
What is your background/industry experience and research focus?
I have an academic background in Economics and Policy Analysis. My research primarily focuses on evaluating the impacts of health policies on marginalized populations and those with limited access to care, using quantitative methods. I also study healthcare finance, with a particular interest in exploring sustainable approaches to financing healthcare systems.
How does your graduate program(s) of instruction establish important connections to industry professionals?
The Master of Health Administration (MHA) program at UNC Charlotte enrolls 25–45 students per cohort each year, drawing individuals from diverse academic, professional, and cultural backgrounds. The program maintains strong connections with industry professionals through its curriculum, internships, and community partnerships. Approximately 89% of graduates secure employment within three months of graduation in areas such as clinical operations, healthcare consulting, and government agencies.
What’s your favorite thing about being a faculty member of your graduate program?
One of my favorite things about being a faculty member in the MHA program is teaching and mentoring students as they grow into thoughtful, capable healthcare professionals. Our students bring diverse experiences and perspectives to the classroom, and it’s truly rewarding to see their development from learners to leaders in the field. I also value the opportunity to work alongside an exceptional group of colleagues who bring a wide range of expertise and robust research backgrounds in health management and health policy. Their depth of knowledge enriches both the classroom experience and our collaborative scholarly work, especially with students.
Why should a student choose UNC Charlotte for their graduate degree?
Students should choose UNC Charlotte for their graduate degree because it combines the academic rigor of a leading research institution with the practical benefits of being located in one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country. The university offers access to experienced faculty, strong community partnerships, and direct connections to major healthcare systems and employers—creating a rich environment for both academic and professional development.
