My graduate journey
My graduate school journey at UNC Charlotte has been both challenging and rewarding, providing opportunities for academic growth, leadership development and meaningful community engagement. Whether pursuing a graduate certificate, master’s or doctoral program, UNC Charlotte fosters an environment where graduate students are supported academically and personally.
Graduate certificate / master’s / doctoral programs
As a graduate student, I have found the Chemistry and Nanoscale Science program to be thoughtfully designed to balance academic rigor with practical application. The curriculum has allowed me to explore my academic interests in depth while developing skills that directly align with my professional goals. Courses are structured in a way that encourages critical thinking, hands-on learning and real-world relevance. This approach has helped me grow both as a student and as a professional, while gaining valuable experiences that extend beyond the classroom.
Class experiences
My class experiences at UNC Charlotte have been engaging, collaborative and discussion driven. Courses often emphasize critical thinking, research and real-world application, which encouraged me to actively participate and learn from peers with diverse academic and professional backgrounds. These interactions enriched my learning and strengthened my confidence as a graduate student.
Faculty support
Faculty support has been a cornerstone of my graduate experience. Professors are approachable, supportive and genuinely invested in student success. Through mentorship, office hours and ongoing feedback, faculty members provide guidance that helps students navigate coursework, research and future career pathways. This strong faculty support plays a vital role in creating an environment where graduate students feel supported and confident in their academic journey. Like many other graduate students at UNC Charlotte, these interactions enriched my learning experience and strengthened my confidence as a graduate student.
Resources and support (CGLL and beyond)
UNC Charlotte offers a wide range of resources that support graduate students holistically. The Thomas L. Reynolds Center for Graduate Life and Learning (CGLL) has played a significant role in shaping my graduate experience. As a former Graduate Life Fellow with CGLL, I had the opportunity to work closely with graduate students across disciplines, helping foster community and promote wellness, professional development and academic success. CGLL offers workshops, writing support, leadership opportunities and social programming that helps students feel connected and supported throughout their graduate journey. Being involved with CGLL not only strengthened my leadership skills but also reinforced the importance of community within graduate education.
Overall, my experience at UNC Charlotte has been empowering and transformative. The combination of rigorous academics, supportive faculty and impactful resources like CGLL creates an environment where graduate students can thrive and feel encouraged as they prepare for their future goals.
