Common Questions from Future Graduate Niners

Are there funding or assistantship opportunities for graduate students?

Yes — UNC Charlotte offers a variety of funding opportunities for graduate students, including assistantships, fellowships, tuition support and financial aid. Some are open to all students, while others are program or population-specific. Your Graduate Program Director is your best resource for program-level funding, so we recommend reaching out to them early. You can also explore external funding and searchable databases like PIVOT for more options.

What are the admissions requirements?

Admissions requirements vary by program. A limited number of programs require test scores like the GRE, MAT or GMAT, while others don’t. International students may need to submit proof of English language proficiency. Most materials — like transcripts and recommendations — can be uploaded with your application. For tips, attend an info session or connect with a Graduate Admissions Counselor.

How much does a graduate program cost?

UNC Charlotte offers a high-quality graduate education at an affordable cost. For a full breakdown of current tuition and fees, visit Niner Central. You can also use the cost calculator to get a personalized estimate based on your program and residency status. If you have questions, Niner Central offers several convenient ways to connect.

Would I be accepted into the program?

Admission decisions are based on a holistic review of your academic background, experience and fit with the program. Each graduate program has its own criteria, so the best way to understand your chances is to connect with the Graduate Program Director or a Graduate Admissions Counselor. They can offer personalized guidance based on your goals and interests.

Do you offer application fee waivers or tuition waivers?

Yes. Application fee waivers are available for eligible UNC Charlotte employees, Ronald McNair program participants and U.S. military members. To request a waiver, check the box on your application and upload the required documentation. Tuition waivers are available to full-time, permanent UNC Charlotte employees and can be used toward graduate-level courses across the UNC System.
