How one open house led to a life-changing decision

Kiana Bernard, an M.S. in management student ambassador for the Belk College of Business, reflects on her decision to attend graduate school despite initial doubts. Now, two semesters later, she feels confident in her graduate journey and the hands-on support from her professors that helped her gain many skills. Bernard advises prospective students not to let fear of the unknown deter them; instead, she encourages them to take a leap of faith that may lead to a place even better than they imagined.

Bernard credits the Belk College of Business Open House with solidifying her path, as the welcoming and professional community turned her curiosity into conviction. The environment empowered her to envision a journey where she could excel authentically. With this newfound perspective, she decided to apply.

“Choosing UNC Charlotte and the Belk College of Business gave me a community of like-minded people, a challenge and a clearer vision of my future,” says Bernard. “Graduate school isn’t always easy, but it is worth it, because sometimes the place that feels intimidating at first ends up being the place you grow the most.”
