Growing into the Next Chapter

Categories:

Graduate school has challenged me in ways I did not anticipate, from balancing coursework and leadership responsibilities to navigating the uncertainty of preparing for a career in social work. When I first started my Master of Social Work (MSW) program, I often questioned whether I had what it takes to succeed. Now, I can look back and recognize the challenges I have overcome, the relationships I have built and the confidence I have developed along the way.

As I enter a new semester, I am doing so with a greater sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of the social worker I hope to become. One goal I am tackling this fall semester is to become more confident in my professional identity, particularly through my internship and leadership experiences. I want to challenge myself to step outside my comfort zone, trust my knowledge and deepen my connections within the graduate community.

One lesson from my past semesters that will help me achieve this goal is that I cannot do graduate school alone. I have learned the importance of community, asking for support and giving myself grace. This semester, I intend to remain open to learning, trust my process and remember that growth does not require perfection.

For prospective graduate students, my advice is simple: embrace the experience, build your community and permit yourself to grow along the way. You may discover not only what you are capable of, but also who you are becoming.
